Instructor Spotlight: Alexandra

BIO: Alexandra Williamson holds a BFA in Dance and a Minor in Musical Theater from Montclair State University in New Jersey. She is a recipient of the Dance and Theatre Department Service Award. Williamson started her dance journey at age 9, attending the Jandura School of Irish Dancing. She competed frequently but loved performing in shows such as the annual Frank Patterson shows at NJPAC and Carnegie Hall. Alexandra later attended the Davis Academy of Irish Dancing.
As a young Irish dancer, Alexandra aspired to be in Riverdance. She attended Camp Rince Ceol’s first ever summer, and took her very first pilates class! She was hooked, and continued to attend the camp for several summers.
If the dancers of Riverdance were doing pilates, then so must she! Alexandra attended a performing arts high school (the Morris County Academy for Visual and Performing Arts). There, she fell in love with modern and contemporary dance. Alexandra then started to pursue her dance career, focusing on modern dance. While a student at Montclair State University, she studied at the Paul Taylor School, Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, and the Bates Dance Festival. Alexandra loves to perform and currently dances for Moe-tion Dance Theater, DiMauro Dance Company, Kristina Berger and Dancers, Jennifer Chin, and Darrah Carr Dance. Darrah Carr Dance fuses irish dancing and modern dance together- a perfect combination! Darrah Carr has named the style “ModErin”.
Alexandra has toured nationally and performed on TV including the TODAY Show and Good Morning America. After graduating from Montclair State University she obtained her first Pilates certification from Teri Steele Pilates. She has also studied the Stott Pilates method, and has an additional certification from BASI Pilates. Williamson has also continued her pilates education by taking classes specializing in athletes and dancers, the aging population, and pre and post natal clients. She is on faculty at Hofstra University, Union County College, and the Performing Arts School at Bergen Performing Arts Center. She also teaches at Steps On Broadway, the School at Steps, The Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensives, and the Steffi Nossen School of Dance. Alexandra is also a guest artist at New York University, the Gallatin School. Instagram: @alexandra_dances
